| Card | 1 zone | 2 zones | 3 or more zones |
|---|---|---|---|

Metro, tram and buses share 7 fare zones. A journey can last up to 180 minutes with up to 3 changes. The fare is taken when you tap out; you need at least AED 7.50 on a Silver card to enter. Children aged 5 and under travel free; students, seniors and Social Affairs beneficiaries get 50% off with a personal (Blue) card, and people of determination travel free.
How to pay
- Nol card (Silver, Gold or personal Blue): tap in at the gate and tap out at the end.
- Red ticket: a paper ticket for a few trips, sold at the ticket machines.
- Digital Nol card on supported Samsung and Huawei phones. iPhone, Apple Pay and bank cards cannot be used at the gates yet: the RTA is rolling this out, with completion expected by early 2027.

Common mistakes
- Sitting in Gold Class with a Silver card: AED 100, and inspectors check it.
- Too little balance: you need AED 7.50 on a Silver card to enter, and the fare is taken when you leave.
- Drinking or eating on the train or platform.
- Using a family member's discounted Blue card: it counts as using someone else's card (AED 200).
- Expecting to tap an iPhone or a bank card at the gate: not possible yet.
- Heading to Terminal 2 by metro: only Terminals 1 and 3 have Red Line stations.
